Helping at a Veterans Stand Down with clothing and personal care items collected by members and friends
This is at the "Constitution Cup" Polo Match at the La Conner Polo Grounds. On Bastille Day, Sunday, July 14, the chapter began its commemoration there for the 200th anniversary of Lafayette's Farewell Tour of America. Family members and friends are welcome are often welcome at chapter events.
We are delighted to tell you more about our chapter. There is something for everyone, whether you are active or shut in. We are inspired by our patriotic ancestors who created the United States of America. Let us know your passions.
Some of our projects include service to veterans, restoring monuments and veterans' grave markers, promoting literacy and history in area schools, conservation projects, commemorating historical events, Wreaths Across America, support for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, education about Native Americans, the Constitution, National Defense, supporting projects for a local camp for severely medically challenged children, collecting items to help local classroom needs, and much more.
We have dynamic guest speakers. We collect canceled stamps for a wounded veterans project, create displays at local libraries, collect clothing and household goods for the Navy-Marine Corps Thrift Store, write notes and cards to active military and veterans, collect goods for local food banks, participate in Earth Day cleanup, and display Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) tables at local restaurants during Veterans Month. We have a free borrowing library for members, provide a baby basket filled with needed items for a baby class at our area military base, and collect personal care products for veterans, knit hats and collect new socks for veterans, students in need, and low income seniors. We work with youth, adults, seniors, shut-ins, and other local organizations -- and much more.
And we have fun! We even have an iconic Ann Pope Washington doll who travels, teaching us all sorts of interesting things. She is such a hoot!
